a delicious wind

There’s a Nabisco bakery a little ways from the house, down on 73rd & Kedzie. When the wind is blowing right, you can tell what they’re baking.

My neighborhood smelled like Nilla Wafers today.

  1. There’s a General Mills factory in Buffalo you can smell from the highway. Like baking Lucky Charms.

Here in The Hammer, I used to live across the street from a Cadbury’s candy factory. It smelled like gummi bears and cinnamon lips all the time. Once I saw them loading a dead body into an ambulance. I like to think he jumped in one of the delicious vats. What a great way to go.

  2. In my fair city, downtown, in the west loop, there’s the Archibald Candy Factory and they make chocolates. Some spring afternoons when all the ladies start wearing tank tops a sweet chocolate wind blows in from the west and everything is awesome.

I think the candy factory has been sold several times but fuck all if i’m not gonna refer to it as the ACC (yeah you know me).

How do you know that body was dead? Could it have been some kind of practical joak, or even a prank on the coroner? Perhaps, say, a chocolate person in a body bag? And if it would, would the coroner get mad when he found out it was hollow like those cheapassed chocolate bunnies foisted on kids at Easter?

Damnit, Cletus, you raise more questions than you answer.
